HFSS stands for high in fat, salt or sugar. A product is HFSS compliant when it is not classified as HFSS under the UK nutrient profiling model, which means it is not restricted by the promotion and placement rules. All four NuPop flavours are HFSS compliant.

HOW THE HFSS RULES WORK

The UK uses a nutrient profiling model to score food and drink. Energy, saturated fat, total sugar and sodium push a score up; fibre, protein, fruit, vegetable and nut content pull it back down.

Products classified as HFSS face restrictions on where they can be placed in larger retailers and on volume promotions, and on certain advertising.

For retailers this matters commercially as well as nutritionally: compliant products can be sited and promoted in locations that HFSS products cannot.
